The caffeine connection

Posted on 15. Jun, 2011 by in blog, Coworking

When plugging away at the latest big project, there’s got to be something to break the monotony. Coffee is an almost universal drink that we just can’t shunt from our system. We all crave our caffeine to get us going in the morning, and relish the thought of our next coffee break. This magical elixir also grants us opportunities to bump into coworkers and swap the newest “talk of the town.”

The shared caffeine infusion keeps all the coworkers roused for the next few hours of work. With the comforting companionship of my sturdy (and tall) Citizen Space mug, and my fellow Citizens, I can face the next few hours of value-creating toil. This is what co working is all about. Work can be a tough pill to take, but just the thought of being around like-minded folks (as opposed to being enclosed inside a cubbyhole) makes a world of difference.

Becoming involved in a coworking community enables one to reap the benefits of a collaborative working atmosphere. Coworking augments one’s determination to work, opens up more opportunities for socializing and networking and enables you to solicit valuable insights and suggestions.

Working in a this atmosphere has proven to yield significant advantages. Socializing is one basic component of a healthy life. With free lancing, some people are reduced to working hermits, isolated and devoid of a social life. Meeting new acquaintances, making connections and creating value are hallmarks of effective work in the Information Age.

Work can be fun and meaningful. In the context of coworking, one has the opportunity to seek more potential clients and perhaps join forces with another entrepreneur within the coworking community. There are many paths to your own professional nirvana.

The future of work?

Posted on 10. Jun, 2011 by in blog, Coworking

Working at home is often too lonely and working in a café is too distracting thus finding a space to get work done with some like-minded people around you is ideal. This is the basic concept of coworking.

Laptop Nomads: this is the term which was used to denote a bunch of people working together with their laptops in one space. This term was a predecessor of coworking. This simple start evolved into groups of independent/freelance individuals sharing a space, conference rooms, and espresso machines which they can use to socialize with each other. This space was not restricted to just developers or business-types: artists and writers are a great fit for coworking spaces as well.

Today coworking is becoming the trend of many budding entrepreneurs as well as freelancers. A lot of co-working spaces are currently flourishing in big cities. Due to increasing rental fees of offices, startups as well as large enterprises are already adapting this new trend. Even banks like ING are exploring “cafes” for customers to cowork and have a latte’ while chatting about banking needs.

Coworking vs. Working from home

Posted on 10. Jun, 2011 by in blog, Coworking

It seems that in most urban centers in the U.S., professionals are coming together to create coworking facilities. This may be because more and more freelancers are realizing the advantages of working in a collaborative, energetic environment. Working from home may sound tempting but many freelancers who have tried working from the comfort of their home know, based on their experience, that it isn’t easy to do because of too many distractions especially if you’ve crossed into the realm of parenthood. Coworking facilities offer a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere without the distractions. Some other advantages of coworking are that collaboration, camaraderie and the inevitability of hot coffee and enjoyable snacks.
